Contextual Information
Our plot is not near any bodies of water. However, there is a creek to the north of it. It is located on an incline but it’s not very steep. The area is densely populated with adult trees and other organisms such as flowers and baby trees. The plot has a lot of trees and there is a decent amount of fungi on the logs. Protista are not noticeable in the plot and there are no animal homes in the plot. Occasionally, there might be insects such as bees or termites, and a snail was found during one of our visits. There is no noticeable evidence of any large mammal tracks on the plot. The plot is healthy and most of the plants are native to North Carolina. The soil pH is constantly at 7 and the temperature was 60 F in 10/16/13, 47 F in 11/13/13, 40 F in 2/26/14, and 60 F in 4/30/14. The leaf litter started off very low in the beginning of the year with 1.5 centimeter, and in November it was 5 inches. In February it was 1.5 inches, and in April it was 2 centimeters.
