Plot day 3
February 27, 2014: After almost three months, my group and I finally went out to the plots again. This time when we went to our plots we were met with a different sight than we saw in November. This time there were less leaves on the ground, the leaf litter actually went down by 3 1/2 inches. There are still not many critters on the ground, (I guess they're still hibernating) and the trees aren't growing leafs. However this time we did see that one of our trees was growing buds on the end, which is a sign that things are going to start growing again. The temperature of the ground is the thing that actually surprised me, it was 40 degrees and I thought it would be higher since spring is coming, but I guess I was wrong. Overall it was a good plot visit and I can't wait to go in the spring to see all the changes that will happen. (Morgan Morris)
February 27, 2014: Today was our third day on the plot. We had to postpone this visit many times due to the inclement weather of rain and snow. It was colder than the recent rainy, warm weather we had the past week and I thought this fluctuating weather might have affected what we were going to see on the plot. For example, because of the rain and warm weather last week, there might have been mushrooms sprouting, but due to the cooler, dry weather when we visited, I assumed these organisms probably disappeared. However, we did observe some of trees in our plot had branches that were beginning to bud. Therefore, as the weather continues to get warmer, I am guessing that the next time we visit, leaves will start appearing on the trees and the ground will be mostly cleared of leaf litter. We also spotted two new trees starting to grow from the ground and I assumed this was also because of the recent warm weather. To sum it up, this visit was very interesting, and I am predicting there will be an abundance of changes to see for our next visit, as spring is quickly arriving and this tepid weather will surely affect the organisms in the plot. February 26, 2014: On Wednesday 26th our group went to our plot. It is our third time to visit our plot. It has been a while since the last time we have been here. During those weeks, the weather has change a lot and also unpredictable, I think that is a reason that our plot almost didn't grow anything. After we got here, we didn't see much changing but it seems like there are more dead organism and plants in our plant. And the height of the trees didn't really change. We measure the degree in the ground, take specimens, take three pictures of the three angles and I made a one minute video for the whole. There is a obvious change, which is the leaf bed on the ground decrease about two inches. We also found there are some buds coming out through the top of the branches, it red and did not open yet. Because it is already spring, the weather suppose to be warmer and warmer, so I think when the next visit come, it will be more plants grow out, and more organism start to activate. And we also found two tiny trees that we did not discover before. By the way, today is such a cold and windy day. (Cindy Biao)
